Wearable Highlights at BIM World Munich 2016

BIM World Munich 2016 presented over 60 international exhibitors and the future for the construction and building industry this year for the first time ever in Germany. Building Information Modeling (BIM) encompasses the digitalization and process optimization of the Construction, Architecture and Engineering industries and captures the entire construction process and the infrastructure around it. The exhibition itself has seen leading enterprises such as Autodesk, Trimble, Topcon and Nemetschek Group present their products and services to over thousands of visitors.

Wearable devices will also have a huge impact on the industry. ”Imagine an electrical engineer in the future – he is in a building that was designed and built via the BIM standard. He is able to see all the cables and structural information with the use of AR glasses, like the Microsoft HoloLens. The benefits of this technology are huge and will enable building owners to save a lot of money on building maintenance” comments Dr. Joseph Kauer, President of BIM World Munich. Here the wearable highlights from the BIM World Munich’s show floor!

Elite CAD

Elite CAD VR is based on intuitive usage with direct design model reference. You can develop your 3D model intuitively on the basis of BIM (Building Information Modeling). From this model you deduct all relevant plans, dimension associative, create photorealistic perspectives and calculate all parameters at any state of your project with help of graphical quantity surveying.

HTC VIVE

With the Vive headset from HTC you can walk around freely and explore everything–the Chaperone guidance system keeps you safely within the bounds of your play area. Breakthrough SteamVR™ Tracking technology lets the headset and controllers know in real time where they are within a room. Freely explore and interact with objects, characters, and environments. Room-scale VR puts you at the center of everything.

The interaction between BIM and Wearable Technologies holds great potential that and is only just being noticed by tech leaders. Software, engineering, and real estate business are some of the most innovative industries that are already investing heavily in the combination of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) solutions to visualize their 3D infrastructure models. Already looking forward to BIM World Munich 2017!
