Live from WTEU17 – Day 2

We are back reporting live from Munich on the second day of the WT | Wearable Technologies Conference 2017 EUROPE. If you are wondering what happened on the first day you can find out more here. After an awesome party at the ISPO teepees yesterday we hope you are in the mood for some more aspects of wearable tech today!

Welcome back! Asli Solmaz-Kaiser, Vice President, Product Development & Innovation of TÜV SÜD starts the conference with a presentation on the world’s first WT TÜV SÜD-certified product: The adidas ZONE. Certification becomes more and more crucial for gaining consumer trust for your product. 

Our first session of the day “News from the Greater Wearable Ecosystem” is moderated by Blake McEldowney of Zinc Group. First speaker to hit the stage for this session is Patrice Slupowski, VP  Digital Innovation of Orange. After waking up the audience he is looking into the IoT Industry Facing UX Fragmentation and Personal Data Regulation for us.

Allianz and Panasonic are giving a joint presentation next. First Dr. Christoph Döbrich, Innovations Manager at Allianz Worlwide Partners focusses on whether IoT and Insurance are the perfect match. Then Dr. Benedict Doepfer, Manager Sales & Marketing Smart Home at Panasonic addresses the smart home chasm with Alliance-based solutions. Check out this video on their collaboration.


Last but not least Maria Bobrowska, Senior European Commercial Manager Mobile at TUI gives an overview on Wearables in the Leisure Industry and showed off the TUI Smart Band.

Back after a short break, we start with the session Solutions for Professionals and Industry moderated by Greg Varner, Senior consultant at WT | Wearable Technologies. The first speaker in this session is smart glasses expert Percy Stocker, COO of Ubimax. We stick a little longer with smart glasses by Univet presented by Alberto Albertini. ProGlove has been celebrated a lot over the last couple of years for their solution for the professional wearable market. Speaker Tarek Ouertani gives details on the product. Next, Al Lakhani, CEO of IDEE shows us his technology that lets you finally forget about passwords! As a special guest for this session, IBM’s Dirk Mühlenweg presents Digital Reinvention – New Possibilities in a Connected World.

During our lunch break, we feature another round of demo pitches today. Make sure to listen in at 1.15 for some background info from Suunto/Movesense, CSEM, Gaitup, Antelope, Cardio Secur, 112 Motion and Neocare.

We are coming to our final session of today and also for this conference: Cutting Edge Enabling Technologies moderated by Kevin Lloyd, Senior Consultant at WT | Wearable Technologies. Audio sensing is a relatively new technology for wearables. Dr.-Ing. Florian Eyben, CTO at audEERING is at the forefront with his company for this new area for wearable and mobile devices presenting “Listening Between the Lines – Automatic Intelligent Audio Analysis for Speaker Traits, Speech Emotions and Environment Sounds on Mobile Devices”. Pressure sensing can be used for amazing applications in Wearables. Speaker Sampo Härkönen, Senior Manager, Pressure Sensor Marketing of Infineon Technologies shows the highlights of this technology.

Chris Goeltner, Product Manager Wearables of Osram Opto Semiconductors gives a deep dive into advanced optical sensors. “Sensorskin – Making Everything Touch Sensitive” is the title of Tacterion’s CEO Dr.-Ing. Michael Strohmayr’s speech. We are coming to the last speaker of today, Covestro’s OEM Manager, Gerd Büschel. He explains the process efficient roll-to-roll thermoplastic materials, enabling soft embedding and comfortable wearable patches they had on display at the conference exhibition.
