Bluetooth Innovation World Cup 2009

Bluetooth Innovation World Cup 2009

Supported by strong industry partners the first Bluetooth Innovation World Cup successfully started its search for product and service ideas primarily within the field of sports, fitness and health care which exploit the unique features of Bluetooth low energy technology.

With the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup, running until 31 October, the Bluetooth SIG is looking for new applications and products using Bluetooth low energy technology with the aim of establishing Bluetooth technology as the non-proprietary standard in the sports and healthcare sectors.

From the 7th to 10th of February 2010 the winner of the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup – the Innovator of the Year – as well as three runners up will be awarded in line with the world’s largest sporting goods trade show ispo winter 2010. Their ideas will be showcased as part of the Wearable Technologies Show. ispo, the B2B platform where the latest trends in sporting goods, sports shoes, and sports fashion have been presented for already 40 years and the WFSGI, the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry, partner the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup offering the participants direct access to the sports market.

The competition calls upon innovators, athletes, and other technology fans worldwide to submit their new ideas for using Bluetooth low energy technology in the world of sport, fitness, and healthcare at www.bluetooth.com/innovation  before 31 October.
The innovations promise to be a progress for the development of Wearable Technologies. Bluetooth low energy technology and its extremely low energy consumption make a wide array of innovative applications possible. To transfer data for instance from wireless pulse oximeters or glucose meters to mobile phones and watches are already an exciting reality.
In addition, such devices will benefit from the economical power consumption and in turn improve your athletic activities through increased performance.

The Bluetooth Innovation World Cup is sponsored by industry leaders from both the technology and sporting goods industry.

Nokia, the world's leading maker of mobile devices signed up as the main sponsor. Nokia connects people in new and different ways - fusing advanced mobile technology with personalized services to enable people to stay close to what matters to them. Tracking fitness information, monitoring, measuring and sharing sports information gives a whole new dimension to any exercise regime.

Freescale, a global leader in the design and manufacture of embedded semiconductors, is the preferred technology partner of the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup, supporting participating innovators by providing SDKs and developer kits for acceleration, pressure, touch and proximity sensors to enhance product development.

In addition, major providers of wireless communication solutions Nordic Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments sponsor the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup aiming to quickly establish and grow the market for Bluetooth low energy technology. Brunel, a service specialist with a world-wide reach that specialises in HR consultancy, secondment and recruitment solutions, joined the competition with view to innovation generation and cross-industry exchange.

About Bluetooth® Wireless Technology
Bluetooth wireless technology is the global short-range wireless standard for personal connectivity of a broad range of electronic devices. The technology continues to evolve, building on its inherent strengths – small-form factor radio, low power, low cost, built-in security, robustness, ease-of-use, and ad hoc networking abilities. More than nine new Bluetooth enabled products are qualified every working day and 18 million Bluetooth wireless technology units are shipping per week. There are over two billion Bluetooth wireless technology devices in the marketplace and that number climbs daily, making it the only proven wireless choice for developers, product manufacturers, and consumers worldwide.

About the Bluetooth SIG
