Wearable Technologies at ispo 10
Once more, the Wearable Technologies Show was part of ispo, the world's leading sporting goods trade show. The exhibiting companies presented their innovative products in large Ice Domes along the main hallway of ispovision in Hall B1, the hall standing particularly for the combination of sports, style and innovation. Well-known brands such as Garmin, Odlo, CicloSport or RipCurl showed their engagement in wearable technologies, but also newcomers such as O-Synce, sportsCurve or Texsys GmbH aroused the interest of the numerous visitors. The WT Show also proved to be an interesting platform for the leading research institutes Fraunhofer (Germany), Cetemmsa (Spain) and CSEM (Switzerland) who are deeply involved in the integration of various technologies into garments and accessories.
A highlight of the WT Show was certainly the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) which had a whole Ice Dome to present the finalists of the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup 2009. With this idea competition, the Bluetooth SIG is looking for ideas for applications using the newly adopted Bluetooth low energy technology. With over 250 participants in its first year, the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup was a great success. The four finalists showed how well Bluetooth low energy technology can be used in the fields of sports & fitness and also healthcare.
Therefore, the WT Show once more proved to be not only a marketing platform for well-established companies, but also a networking event and a platform for innovative, evolving smaller companies with high potential in the field of wearable technologies. Both the already introduced and tested innovations as well as the prototypes have great market potential. Amongst this year's trends were elaborated heating solutions, motion sensors integrated into garments to measure body functions and movements, smart, wearable GPS devices for the use in sports a special Bluetooth headset inlay by Texsys integrated into a helmet. Hence, an interesting mixture of products and companies that proved to be interesting for the visitors and promising for the future of wearable technologies.
