The Institute of Textile Technology and Process Engineering (‘ITV’) Denkendorf developed a children jacket equipped with LEDs within the framework of the joint research project ‘Solartex’. Luminous stripes on the arms at different places enable good visibility at half-light and darkness thus improving the safety of the wearer. This solution makes a warning effect possible and its function does not require any external light source. Flexible solar cells integrated in the jacket - the energy of which is provided by intelligent charging electronics and temporary storage with accumulators - serve for the electrical supply of the LEDs. Solar cells and LEDs are harmoniously integrated in the jacket, e.g. at the pockets - as detail solutions. Washing of the jacket is possible after the removal of the solar modules and charging unit.

Another development is the prototype of a Sensor-Baby Vest: The sensor technology integrated in the Baby Vest is supposed to avoid the so-called Sudden Infant Death Syndrom (SIDS) and other critical situations. This sensor technology enables continuous recording of vital functions requiring a minimum of technical and nursing means.
