With IFA 2018, one of the year’s biggest technology trade shows right around the corner, LG has announced two new models of its popular Tone earbuds – the Tone Platinum SE and the Tone Ultra SE, both of which comes complete with a dedicated Google Assistant button.
With the G7 ThinQ smartphone, LG cemented its commitment to Google’s AI, and now it’s doing the same with its neck-worn Tone headphone lineup. The LG Tone Platinum SE supports Google Assistant via a dedicated button, which also offers real-time translation without the need to pull out your smartphone or without having to invoke a trigger phrase, “OK Google”. LG didn’t specify, but it appears to be just a button and not full Google Assistant integration like the kind seen on certain Sony headphone models, for example.
“LG brought a new paradigm to wearable audio products with smart features of our successful TONE series and we continue to innovate with our latest models. We are committed to delivering more great audio wearable products to consumers worldwide,” said Kim Tae-gyun, head of LG’s Companion Device Business Division.
Both models have in-ear headphones, but the Tone Ultra SE features an external mono speaker in addition to earbuds. The idea is that you can listen to music without blocking ambient sounds, ideal when you need to be aware of the surroundings.
Both the LG TONE Platinum SE and LG TONE Ultra SE have balanced armatures and dynamic drivers for maximum audio quality and support for the Tone & Talk smartphone app, along with MEMS microphones that enhance call clarity. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability, but LG will be showing them off at IFA in Berlin at the end of the month, according to EndGadget.
The earbuds are available in black, blue and gold.
