Garmin announced its latest smartwatch, Garmin Instinct, a rugged GPS adventure watch that’s not only informative, but resilient enough to defy all the elements.
Garmin Instinct incorporates hiking-friendly features such as a three-axis compass, barometer/altimeter and support for multiple satellite systems – GLONASS and Galileo in addition to GPS – to make sure you don’t get lost while hiking or climbing, reports CNET.
The watch supports Garmin’s Connect phone app, and offers fitness features such as a wrist-based heart-rate monitor, sports apps and wellness data.
The Garmin Instinct is “perfect for those who spend their time outdoors and demand a device built tough to stand up in the elements,” says Dan Bartel, Garmin VP of global consumer sales.
This rugged, reliable outdoor GPS watch is built to the U.S. military standard 810G for thermal, shock and water resistance (rated to 100 meters), according to Garmin. The watch case is made of fiber-reinforced polymer, which adds strength and durability. The chemically-strengthened, scratch-resistant display is high-contrast enough to read in bright sunlight, so you can take it with you into the extremes you face every day. Plus, the fully vented silicone bands include two independent, removable keeper loops to ensure a secure fit and to keep you from getting caught on things.
As far as the looks goes, there isn’t likely to be much middle ground; you either love it or hate it. The Instinct will remind you of the Casio watches.
While in GPS mode, the battery will sustain for 16 hours and 40 hours in UltraTrac battery saver mode; however, if you use the watch on basic smartwatch mode, it can go on for 2 whole weeks without a charge.
