Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect more than just the joints in your body. In some people, the condition also can damage a wide variety of body systems, including the skin, eyes, lungs, heart and blood vessels.

An autoimmune disorder, rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s tissues.

Unlike the wear-and-tear damage of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis affects the lining of your joints, causing a painful swelling that can eventually result in bone erosion and joint deformity.

This chronic disease affects over 1.3 million Americans and as much as 1% of the worldwide population. The specific cause of RA is not known, and as a result there is no known cure for the disease.

The wearable device, designed by Kim Guiyoung, Prof. Kim Jieun & Lee Hyejeong, consists of three parts: finger rings, main device, and a wrist device. Equipped with sensors, these components measure a range of motion and minute muscle movements to assess the level of hand dysfunction and how to stabilize it and then transfer the data via Bluetooth, reports Yanko Design.

The main device consists of 9-axis IMU sensor, MCU, and a Bluetoothv2.0+EDR module, this IMU sensor offers a higher sensitivity of measurement.
