Language is vital for any type of communication. Even those with speech impairments or vision problems communicate with sign language and braille. When people do not understand each other’s language, communication becomes difficult. Language barriers may cause misunderstandings and misinterpretations between people. Although English is the international language, most people in this planet do not speak English, or even understand it. Not using the words that other person understands makes the communication meaningless and stops message from being passing on.

Shenzhen, China & Pasadena, CA-based startup TImekettle wants to solve the language barrier problem. So, the company developed WT2 translator – an in-ear translator for real-time, natural and hands-free communication. The company just announced they’ll be shipping the new translator in January, 2019.

What’s WT2?

WT2 is a real-time, wearable hands-free translator that enables communication between 2 people speaking completely different languages. Each person wears one earphone – you speak in your language, they hear in theirs. The device includes 2 earphones, 1 app, and a customized charging case. The earphones provide long-term, hands-free foreign language communication, allowing you to immerse yourself in the local culture while traveling, express yourself more completely and build more meaningful connections with the people you meet.

“Our WT2 is the world’s first and only “1+2 translation” system. This means that unlike other solutions, our patented technology innovatively allows multiplexed speech communication between both WT2 earphone translators and a single phone with the WT2 App, creating a smooth communication experience for the user,” Timekettle said.

This system integrates wireless communication technology, intelligent algorithms, voice translation, and many other technologies into one seamless package. By using “1 +2”, one can easily talk with anyone, regardless of spoken language, and with no awkward setup steps.
