CES 2019: These Companies Are Showcasing Their Best Wearables for the Athletes

The countdown to the 52nd Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is on. The biggest tech show on earth begins tomorrow, January 8 in Las Vegas, the city that hosts the event each year. Like previous years, this year’s event will showcase many innovative technologies, including wearable devices. Several companies will display wearables for athletes, and here are a few of them:

Withings

Withings will debut Move, the first analog watch with ECG functionality at the CES, and the watch will be very affordable.

Withings’ Move ECG brings a new level of heart monitoring to the traditional analog watch with its ability to take an electrocardiogram on-demand to help detect AFib, the most common heart arrhythmia. AFib is a serious form of irregular heart rhythm that can lead to fatigue, shortness of breath and heart failure. It is also known to be a major risk for stroke.

The Withings Move ECG will be released in Q2 of 2019 for $129.95.

Garmin

Garmin appears at the CES regularly. Last year, the company announced its Forerunner 645 Music, a smartwatch with built-in storage for music and Garmin Pay. Besides, Garmin also introduced a boatload of watches in 2018. Garmin forerunner 935 has been designed for triathletes. It tracks running, indoor track, cycling, pool swimming, and open water swimming. It also tracks water sports, snow sports, cardio, golf etc.

Suunto

The Finnish company will be exhibiting at the CES on January 8. While Suunto hasn’t mentioned any new product, it announced there will be five new wearable products powered by Suunto’s Movesense technology. The Movesense platform has also been upgraded.

“We’re bringing five companies to CES, each showing new products that take advantage of Movesense, three of which launched within a year of finding us,” said Terho Lahtinen, Senior Manager, Future Concepts at Movesense.

Fitbit

This San Francisco-based company is a regular participant at CES. Fitbit Charge 3 hit the stores in October, last year. The new Charge 3 keeps to a thinner, vertical-screened look unlike the watches with large screens. The comfortable rubber band comes in two sizes. Additionally, it has a woven nylon band and a perforated rubber sports band. What makes the Fitbit Charge 3 very different than its predecessor is the larger display and touchscreen. The larger OLED is crisp and easier to read, and has ample room to show more text messages.

The company’s Versa also did very well. In June, the company announced that it had shipped over a million Versa watches since it went on sale in mid-April last year.

Omron

Omron recently announced that its HeartGuide, a blood pressure monitoring smartwatch has received FDA clearance. The HeartGuide is essentially a blood pressure machine that works just like a full-size machine — a sphygmomanometer. The device was actually announced at the last year’s CES event.
