Casio Pro Trek Smart WSD-F30 smartwatch just hit the trails in January. The watch, which runs on Google’s Wear OS, was announced in August at the IFA 2018 in Berlin, where it won 8 awards.

Thomas Uppenkamp, Manager at Casio, will be speaking at the WT | Wearable Technologies Conference at ISPO Munich on February 5.

The Pro Trek smartwatch, which Casio continues to refine, is meant for those who really enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking or running, reports Digital Trends.

The rugged watch is water resistance up to 50 meters, and has built-in GPS and offline map functionality. However, most of the attentions the watch received is for its battery life claims.

Dual-layer Monochrome and Color Display

The WSD-F30 features a new and improved dual-layer monochrome and color display. The new color display employs an organic EL display that shows maps and data in finer detail. The layout of the monochrome display now shows more than just the time; it also displays atmospheric pressure/altitude and compass bearing, as befits the PRO TREK outdoor gear brand.  This feature provides useful information for outdoor activities at a glance while conserving energy.

Extend Mode

A new Extend Mode shows the time, altitude, and atmospheric data; plus, pressing a button calls up the Color map. The map shows on the F30’s main OLED screen, which also shows Google’s Wear OS operating system, however for Extend Mode Wear OS goes to sleep mode to save energy, resulting in 3 days battery use while still viewing offline maps.

Multi Timepiece mode

Only the time and sensor data are displayed when the monochrome LCD is in use. Selecting this display cuts power consumption dramatically and offers security in environments where charging is not possible. Two display styles for outdoor or daily life are selectable.
