Fourth Dimension Display, a subsidiary of Kopin Corporation, launched a 2K x 2K high performance reflective LCOS device at Photonics West 2019.
With 2048 x 2048 pixels, the 0.94” diagonal 2K x 2K device can be used as a micro display or as a Spatial Light Modulator (SLM). targeted at high performance applications such as structured illumination and Near-To-Eye displays, the imager was demonstrated at the Photonics West (Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, Feb 5 – 7 2019). Through a 33° FOV viewer, one can see 24-bit colour 4.1 MPixel images. The purely digital LCOS technology ensures high brightness capability without any image burn-in, reports Business Wire.
“We are happy to announce even higher resolution microdisplays and SLMs for the next generation of applications in displays and structured light. Our unique, all-digital, purely binary approach to light modulation serves a wide variety of applications,” said Greg Truman, CEO of Forth Dimension Displays. “Interfacing the 2K x 2K with our established two board variants, the R10 for video and the 3DM for memory-based applications, will ensure optimal usability. Optional ancillaries and highly experienced engineering support will shorten the design-in time for our customers.”
Kopin CEO Dr. John C.C. Fan said the new display is the latest example of innovative products introduced by his company. “It is the highest resolution ferroelectric display and SLM on the market, with very fast all digital switching characteristics to display a crisp lifelike image or provide high-performance binary phase modulation. Kopin is the only company that offers the full suite of microdisplays: transmissive and reflective LCDs as well as OLED displays. Our microdisplay products are being used across many military, industrial and consumer applications including AR, VR and 3D metrology,” he said.
Kopin is a leading provider of innovative wearable technologies and critical components for integration into wearable computing systems for military, industrial and consumer products. Kopin’s technology portfolio includes ultra-small displays, optics, speech enhancement technology, voice-interface and hands-free control software, low-power ASICs, and ergonomically designed smart headset reference systems.
