PlusUs Xpad charging pad

Wireless charging pads available in today’s market are bulky, inflexible and are hard to carry around. Now, Australian company Plusus has introduced a new charging pad which takes on a more minimalistic and modern approach. The charging pad, called Xpad, is the world’s thinnest and first-ever flexible wireless charging pad, claims the company.

Made entirely from genuine Italian leather, real timber veneer or cork, Xpad is a beautiful, modern design handcrafted from eco-friendly materials. Xpad is proportioned to accommodate all smartphone sizes and is perfect for any home or work setting, according to a press release.

By using natural materials and separating the circuit board from the charging pad, Xpad comes in at 2.2mm thin, which is 75% thinner than other wireless pads, all while increasing power and efficiency.  The outcome is a minimalistic, ultra-thin, flat, robust, flexible design that is aesthetically pleasing on any surface – even a contoured couch armrest.

Thin Xpad

“To create a thin, flexible wireless charger, both the structure and the electronics had to be reimagined and re-engineered,” said Arash Shakibaee, head of Product Development, PlusUs.  “Xpad’s design results in a massive 75% reduction in bulk and size, as well as a reduction of heat from the charging pad surface by up to 50% – setting new industry benchmarks!”

Xpad utilizes cork’s exceptional characteristics, leading to its use as the internal structure for all three versions of Xpad. Cork’s superior thermal insulation significantly reduces heat transfer during charging; it’s anti-static, providing for safe charging; it’s impermeable to moisture, keeping moisture out; and it’s eco-friendly, naturally flexible and durable.

Xpad’s adaptive smart chip technology automatically detects any Qi™ compatible device and delivers charge at up to 2 times faster than standard wireless chargers. Conveniently, Xpad can be used with all wall chargers – Power Delivery and Quick Charge™ fast chargers or standard USB chargers. With Xpad the user has a choice of using any wall charger, regardless of their brand (Apple, Samsung, etc.), so they are not limited to one charging protocol.

An Indiegogo Campaign, managed by The LaunchPad Agency, launched today with a funding goal of $20,000 USD. It features limited Early Bird Specials of $32 as well as several other rewards.
