WT | Wearable Technologies is proud to present our 18th WT | Wearable Technologies Conference Asia on October 12, 2015. This is our 3rd time introducing the WT ecosystem within the Asian region, however this event marks the first time we will be featured in Hong Kong at the wonderful Renaissance Harbour View Hotel. We have partnered with the all-knowing wearable certifier, TÜV SÜD.

This one day event organized between WT and TÜV SÜD was professionally filled with inspirational, educational talks, demos, and interactive activities. This event was lively because it marked the offical launch of the WT – TÜV SÜD certifcation mark! TÜV SÜD represenatives stepped to the stage to share the process of applying, testing and receiving the WT – TÜV SÜD mark.

    Christian Stammel , Wearable Technologies AG


    Christian Stammel is the founder and CEO of the – first of its kind – innovation and business development platform for Wearable Technologies (WT). As serial entrepreneur, Christian founded his first two companies during university. Since the mid-90s he has founded more than 10 companies in the fields of geo data, navigation, internet, open innovation and technology consulting with a proven success record.
    Currently he operates as CEO of Wearable Technologies AG. He is a frequent keynote speaker on topics like IoT and beyond. His work cultivates multinationals and entrepreneurs alike to connect with forward thinkers, investors and most influential people within disruptive and converging industries. He developed the renowned open innovation platform, Innovation World Cup Series, through which he and his team support hundreds of companies every year. A well-known supporter of companies of all sizes his brainchild Wearable Technologies is a business accelerator for the entire WT ecosystem. Mr. Stammel is as keen to technology as he is passionate about surfing and snowboarding – always riding the biggest waves first.

    Asli Solmaz-Kaiser, TÜV SÜD


    Asli is the global head of electrical and electronics products at TÜV SÜD. Having worked in technology and testing, inspection and certification companies for over 12 years, Asli brings extensive knowledge both from a product and service perspective. She has held various management positions in the area of marketing, sales and business development. Asli holds an MBA degree from the University of Mannheim.

    Ishan Palit was born in Mumbai, India and educated in the US and UK. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Davidson College, USA, a General Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, UK, and a Masters in Business Administration from Georgia Southern University, USA.
    Ishan Palit joined the TÜV SÜD Group in 1994 and founded the Indian Operations. In January 2008, he was promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO), followed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TÜV SÜD Asia Pacific. He was appointed CEO of TÜV SÜD Product Service Division responsible for the corporate and strategic direction of the Division worldwide in August 2011.

    Dr. -Ing Axel Stepken , TÜV SÜD AG


    Axel Stepken was born in Essen, Germany. He graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the RWTH Aachen and achieved his PhD in High Voltage Engineering in 1989.
    Upon completion of his PhD, Axel Stepken worked at ABB where he held several Management positions in Germany and Indonesia within the Power Transmission and Distribution Segment. He joined TÜV SÜD AG as Member of the Board of Management responsible for the INDUSTRY and the former PEOPLE Strategic Business Segments as well as the Strategic Region ASIA. In June 2007 Axel Stepken was appointed the Chairman of the Board of Management.

    Dirk von Wahl, TÜV SÜD Greater China


    Mr Dirk von Wahl was appointed President and CEO of TÜV SÜD Greater China in January 2009. He leads TÜV SÜD’s operations in Greater China; encompassing Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
    Mr von Wahl began his career with ABB Group in 1991 where he served in management positions both in Germany and China. In 1998, he took the position of President of ABB LV Installation Materials Co. Ltd. in Beijing with a staff strength of 650 employees and annual revenue of USD 27 million.
    In 2002, Mr von Wahl was appointed the President of Volvo CE (China) Co., Ltd. in Shanghai. During his tenure, he took the operation from a representative office with total annual turnover of USD 7 million to a full scale company generating USD 130 million annually. Mr von Wahl’s achievements also include managing the construction project of the Volvo CE plant in Shanghai and establishing a country-wide dealer network in China.
    Mr von Wahl has 20 years of management experience in the Greater China. He will continue to lead the development of TÜV SÜD in the region through identifying strategic growth opportunities and implementing the Group’s corporate objectives.
    Mr von Wahl received his Masters in Economic Engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany.

    Chantal Abadie, Gemalto


    Chantal is Marketing Director for the OEM and Consumer Electronics sales channel at Gemalto. She joined Gemalto in 2000 and has held since then various positions in sales, business development and marketing, serving notably as Field Marketing Manager for EMEA region and Segment Marketing Manager for Emerging Markets. In the course of her work, she has developed expertise in telecom and mobile services, as well as NFC payment and digital security. She holds a Master’s degree from Marseille's Kedge Business School.

  • Kerwin Yen, Canatu

    Kerwin Yen, Canatu


    Yen has 17 years of professional experience in the electronics industry, with the last 8 years in touch business in well-known Taiwanese touch module companies: VP of R&D at J-Touch and Mutto, and Sales Director at Light On Young Fast and SOE. Prior to that, he held various sales and marketing positions and built and managed new businesses in the UK and the USA for 3 years. He has a MBA degree and an industrial engineering degree from National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan.

    Saara Tuurala, VTT


    Ms. Saara Tuurala, a research scientist in applied physics and chemistry, loves to create unique multidisciplinary solutions for health and wellness applications. During her career at VTT’s Centre for Printed and Hybrid Functionalities, she specialized in printed biopower sources and biosensors. Lately, she has been actively commercializing VTT's Beauty Patch concept for cosmetic markets. As an innovative and open-minded teamworker, Saara likes bringing new ideas to the table. In her spare time she is an avid rock climber and skier who enjoys experimental cooking in the company of her friends and family.

    Steve is a world-leading pioneer in electronic textiles and has worked in the smart textiles field for over 18 years. He has developed textile electronics for global brands such as Levis, Nike, Adidas, Apple and the North Face. Steve is currently leading research for sensing, performance and actuation applications in sports and healthcare, recently launching a new sports therapy technology MYOVOLT.

    Sam Yang, Kairos Watches


    Sam Yang is the founder and Managing Director of Kairos Watches, a pioneer and leader in analog-digital hybrid smart watches. Kairos Watches is the 2nd most successfully crowdfunded smart watch company in the world with over $2M in pre-orders and another $2M in outside funding. It’s patented technology is now being used by several major watch brands around the world. Sam has over 17 years of entrepreneur experience since the late 90’s where he was one of the early dot-com entrepreneurs. He has experience in software, hardware and design through his 8 start-up ventures.

    Dr. Faz Chowdhury, Nemaura Medical


    Dr Faz Chowdhury has a Masters in Microsystems and Nanotechnology from Cranfield University, and Doctorate from the University of Oxford on Nano-Drug Delivery. He founded several companies specializing in Drug Delivery and Medical Devices, and has more than 18 granted and pending patents.

    Shao-Wei Lu, Brain Rhythm Inc.


    Shawn has more than 10-year experience on the research of Neuroscience and Brain-Computer Interface. He received the B.S degree in Physics and M.S degree in Life Science from the National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. From 2008, he worked as a researcher at Brain Research Center, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, and focused on the development of biomedical signal processing and the system integration. He also led to establish a Tele-Healthcare platform in local hospital for remote rehabilitation monitoring. He is currently the co-founder and General Manager of Brain Rhythm Inc. (BRI), which is the first customer-oriented brain-computer interface company established in Taiwan.

    Keith Hong, MediaTek Labs


    Keith Hong is responsible for Developer Relationship in MediaTek Labs, the unit in the company to drive Internet of Thing (IoT) opportunity and ecosystem. He is managing China/APAC developers working in MediaTek Linkit projects, assisting them from the product idea, product prototype to commercializing stage.

    Keith has rich working experiences in the telecom/technology industry. He started his career as a Telecom IT programmer, then moved to product management role in telecom operator(CSL), technical marketing & BD role in infrastructure vendor(Ericsson) and chipset leader (Qualcomm). Keith has earned a Computer Science degree and MBA, both from HKUST.

    Laurent is the Founder & CEO of Omate www.omate.com - @OmateOfficial.
    Omate operates a vertically integrated Wearable Design Manufacturer based in Mountain View – California and Shenzhen – China.
    Mentor at StartupGrind, StartupSalad and Acceleratech in Shenzhen, Laurent is a 500startups alum and has been involved in the Mobile Phone Design industry since 2005.

    Sam Zeng, Kopin


    Sam Zeng has been working in the Internet and Technology industry for over 20 years. Beginning in 2015, he has worked as the GM of Kopin China. Before that, he worked for Motorola and Nokia for over 8 years. There he led user experience and software product management. Sam has been in the China Internet scene since founding and working as VP of Product for Asiainfo in 1996. Asiainfo was one of the first Chinese internet companies listed in NASDAQ.

    Dr. Feng He, SCHOTT Glass Technologies


    Dr. He joined SCHOTT after being awarded the PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering by Arizona State University in Tempe, US. In his position of Manager Electronic Application, he worked mainly on the technical evaluation and new business development of high strength brittle materials, especially the high strength thin and ultrathin glass for consumer electronics.

    Brad is responsible to define and drive the strategic initiatives at Lycos Internet Limited. Brad is also responsible to oversee the M&A activities of the company. Prior to this position, Brad was President – Business Integration & Strategic Initiatives that led Ybrant (presently Lycos) achieve impressive business results. An entrepreneur since college, Brad Cohen has founded and managed more than ten successful ventures since 1993 and has a deep understanding of the global Internet marketplace. Brad started his first company, Trident Industries, while in college. Brad was co-founder of eCollege.com, one of the first companies to offer online-distance education programs for Colleges and Universities. As President of the company, Brad managed all software/web development, and the day-to-day business operations.

    In 1998, Brad co-found Cohen Capital; under his leadership, Cohen Capital Technologies founded Neural Technologies, LLC., a software development company based on the only known Instantaneously Trained Neural Network Algorithm. In 2002, Brad co-founded what is now known as MediosOne, the Global Online Advertising Network. Brad received a BA from the University of Missouri in Marketing and Political Science.

    Jingtao is an inventor with multiple patents granted worldwide. With years of research on human finger ergonomics, Jingtao invented the TouchOne Keyboard, the first dedicated smartwatch keyboard. TouchOne Keyboard is the first keyboard designed on circular and square interface, which makes typing messages on a smartwatch both fast and intuitive.
