On February 24, WT | Wearable Technologies organized the first WT | Wearable Technologies Conference 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. At our Mobile World Congress edition we presented a line-up filled with excitement, covering all relevant topics and trends occuring in the wearable space and beyond. After a day full of fast-paced talks around wearables the day resumed with the elevator pitches of the finalists of the IoT / M2M Innovation World Cup.

  • Gerhard Schedler, Swisscom

    Gerhard Schedler, Swisscom


    As Head of the M2M at Swisscom, he leads the development of the M2M business unit in both national and international markets. Prior to Swisscom, he held the position of President & CEO, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS where he was instrumental in transforming the company from a tech start up into a global leader of active RFID and wireless solutions. As a co-founder, and initially CTO of IDENTEC SOLUTIONS, he was responsible for defining the product and solution offering. Schedler was also accredited with establishing an industry alliance that ultimately led to increased market adoption and standardization. He holds both a technical degree from the University Of Applied Sciences Of Technology Buchs (Switzerland) and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Economics in Strathclyde (Scotland) and is also named on several RFID patents.

    Marc Naddell, MediaTek Labs


    Marc leads a global team responsible for MediaTek Labs and related ecosystem and developer programs. This includes a dynamic online web portal, development tools and resources, marketing, technical and business support for developers, makers and partners to build, showcase and launch innovative new devices, apps and services based on MediaTek Systems-on-Chip (SoC). Prior to joining MediaTek, Marc has held key leadership positions at NAVTEQ, Nokia and Motorola. As Vice President of Partner and Developer Programs for NAVTEQ, he created and led the NAVTEQ Network for Developers (NN4D) and the industry renowned NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge®. As Head of Developer Programs for Nokia, Marc created Forum Nokia Pro and other key ecosystem programs. At Motorola, Marc was responsible for the Motocoders developer programs, introduced new portfolios of mobile and infrastructure products and led strategy, marketing and business development functions. Marc has 20 patents related to software and wireless products, and holds a Masters in Management (MBA) from the University of Chicago, Illinois.

    As vice president of portfolio and strategy for Gemalto’s M2M business, he brings more than 15 years of telecommunications and technology management experience to the management team. In this role, he’s responsible for developing strategies to drive business growth in new and existing M2M/IoT markets, defining a global module portfolio and enhancing the customer experience. Before joining Gemalto he was with boardeleven Management Consultants where he focused on evaluating market entry and strategic growth options in the M2M industry for a leading module manufacturer and mobile network operators. Prior to that, he took on various responsibilities covering Network Technology, Product Management and Strategy over eight years at Telefónica, a leading telecommunications carrier in Europe. Mr. Hansmann speaks multiple languages and earned degrees in electrical engineering and telecommunications management.

    Joe Braga is Global Head of Brand and Marcom at Telit, a leading disruptive technology provider in the field of the Internet of Things. Joe has held the chief brand steward position there since 2013. Prior to Telit, Joe headed of the global marketing organization at Sony Ericsson Machine to Machine Communications where he received brand training and catechization from the Sony brand shop. Prior to Sony Ericsson Joe was part of Ericsson’s prestigious and exclusive management program. He holds two engineering degrees from the University of Utah and an MBA from the University of North Carolina. Joe has practiced marcom and brand marketing in the US, Europe and Asia.

    Andy Stanford-Clark, IBM


    Professor Andy Stanford-Clark is a Distinguished Engineer in IBM's global Internet of Things team. He is an IBM Master Inventor with more than 40 patents. Andy is based at IBM's Hursley Park laboratories in the UK, and specialises in developing new applications using Internet of Things technologies. He has a particular interest in home energy monitoring, and home automation. Andy has been working in the area that we now call the Internet of Things for more than 15 years: he co-developed the MQTT messaging protocol in 1998, which has recently been approved as an ISO/IEC standard. Andy has a BSc in Computing and Mathematics, and a PhD in Computer Science. He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Newcastle, an Honorary Professor at the University of East Anglia, and a Fellow of the British Computer Society.

Currently combines the presidency in First V1sion with creative direction inside Mediapro Brands belonging to Mediapro group, Spain's leading producer of sports events and sports rights management company.

    Paul Cain is Strategy Director at FlexEnable. Paul has over 15 years’ experience in the flexible display and plastic electronics industries, in both technical and strategic management roles. He has a deep technical and industry knowledge of flexible display technologies and companies. Paul has taken new display technologies from lab to fab to commercial product, and has 25 patents relating to processes and architectures that enable the high yield manufacture of flexible displays. Paul has a PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge and an MBA from London Business School.

    Mats Horn is the CEO and founder of the Swedish tech company Tinitell. Together with a team of Scandinavian industrial designers, telecom experts and engineers, he has developed one of the first wearable devices with cellular connectivity for voice and data. Tinitell Wristphone is an ingeniously simple wearable phone for kids, with calling and smart location features, as well as with intuitive one-button and voice guidance interactions.

    As CEO, Narcis Avellana is responsible for the vision, strategy, and leadership of Sensing & Control Systems. As CFO, he is responsible for the company’s financial management. He held various engineering and management positions in Bell Northern Research, Nortel Networks, and Carleton University before embarking on his entrepreneurial career. He served on the Board of Directors of several companies and acted as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence for the National Research Council and as an Advisor to Carleton University Foundry program. He has several years of academic and teaching experience. He is an author of numerous articles, presentations, scientific publications and conference papers.
