Today at Barcelona’s CCCB the WT | Wearable Technologies Conference is making its first ever stop in Spain.

Starting out with a keynote by WT | Wearable Technologies CEO Christian Stammel we are looking back at 10 years of wearables and peer into the future of this vibrant market.

The first session of the day is a deep dive into Enabling Technologies. FlexEnable’s Strategy Director Paul Cain presents “Flexible Displays and Sensors for Wearables and Everywhere-ables”.  Then Matthias Dorsch of VARTA Microbattery is exploring “Energy Solutions for Wearable Devices” for us. The session resumes with a speech by Andy Stanford Clark from IBM on “Advancing into the Era of Cognitive IoT”.

Next we look into Best in Class Products. This session will feature many different approaches to smartwatches but also two excellent wearables for the sporting goods industry!

MainTool’s CEO Hussain Ahamed presents “The Watch Industry Revolution” and how to make any watch smart. An “ingeniously simple and “life relevant” piece of tech is showcased by Mats Horn, CEO & Co-Founder of Tinitell. The company has recently been selected as WT | Innovation World Cup finalist in the category Gaming & Lifestyle. A wearables for those who move is presented by another finalist of the innovation competion from the category Sporst&Fitness: Paulo Ferreira dos Santos CEO of Kinematix.

Since Northern Connected Tec unfortunately couldn’t make it to the event today we have Omate next on stage. CEO Laurent Le Pen launched a new kids smartwatch at Mobile World Congress 2016 and will showing it off on our stage. “Wearable vs. Tradition : Conquering the Elite Sport” is the topic of Jose Ildefonso’s speech. He is CEO & Founder of the Spanish company First V1sion. Wotch is up next. Founder & CEO Mauricio Piper presents “10 Smart Options For People Who Care About Their Classic Timepiece”.

Back on stage! Welcome back to our session “New Areas of Application”. This session will focus on new product categories and novel solutions to old problems.

Personal MedSystems (CardioSecur)’ CEO Harrie van Baars for example presents now “The solution for 200 Million Patients with Heart Problems”. Their device works without batteries as the connected phone serves as the battery. The next topic also focuses on health. Kamil Adamczyk, CEO of Inteliclinic Inc. showcases his sleep monitoring device Neuroon. Since E.Sensory won’t be with us today we are proud to have Lifesense on stage together with Zinc Group. Blake McEldowney reveals Carin – the first wearable for women with urine loss.

Now we travel from health to babies and into making babies! Did You Know That Love Can Also Be Measured? Ángel Sánchez Díaz, Co-Founder & General Manager of Geeksme gives answers! Dr. Alex Garcia Faura, Scientific Director of Babypod is certain: He knows the only way sound can reach the baby during pregnancy and explains why this is important. Last speaker in the session is Alessia Moltani CEO at Comftech. She shows the “Next Generation of Embedded Sensors and Bring a New Meaning to Garments”.

Next we are coming to The Greater Wearable Ecosystem and Beyond. Atooma’s CEO Fabrizio Cialdea focuses on “Empowering Personal Devices Ecosystems With Artificial Intelligence.” Another highlight of this session is Twilio. Their Head of the IoT Business, Chetan Chaudhary, gives a talk on the perspective of “Communication Enabling IoT.”

The Award Ceremony in Barcelona on the 24th of February 2016 was a great success. Out of almost 400 submissions only 25 companies were selected as IOT Heroes 2016. Almost all finalists came to Barcelona to present their solutions in the categories Connected Home, Smart City, Mobility, Security, and Healthcare.

The best of the best in Internet of Things were announced right after the elevator pitches: MYXYTY, EverCharge, Kizy Tracking, Swissprime Technologies, and Quanticare Technologies.

The trophies were handed over by the representatives of the IOT / M2M Innovation World Cup sponsors: Gerhard Schedler from Swisscom, Joe Braga from Telit, Marc Naddell from MediaTek Labs, Matthias Dorsch from VARTA Microbattery, and Alex Hansmann from Gemalto.
